Sia

Postby Dom » 17 Mar 2014, 15:43

I've done a search, and i'm surprised to see we don't have a thread for her!

Anyways, after the last couple of years writing and featuring on other artists songs, she's released a single today called "Chandelier":

I like Sia, but I think that due to her being the go-to writer in pop music in recent times her sound has become a bit formulaic. She just has this style that's very her, which is great when you're a singer-songwriter writing for yourself, but when everyone and their mothers are out there singing her songs it becomes easy to detect and a bit repetitive :hmm:

When I first heard it, I immediately thought of Rihanna! I can honestly see it being her new single.

Apparently her new album is going to be more pop-sounding, and it's due in the summer.

i agree she's a talented artist but she's WAY overrated and i think her songs have saturated music scene enough...

This has got an incredibly positive reaction from people on other forums I post on (some declaring it "the song of the year so far" etc), but I'm not really understanding that level of love? Maybe it'll grow on me.

She has done amazing job with song writing for so many but personally I have never liked her voice that much. It's not so much of her voice, it's how she sings. To sound like "unique" which is annoying.

I prefer her albums before this single. She's a great songwriter and has a very unique voice (which happens to be great!), but I'm not feeling this new song. I'm sure it'll grow on me, because I love Sia so much. :)

I love the video too. The girl is amazing, expecially if you consider she is only 11.
The song is not bad but sound like something she might have wrote for Rihanna or whoever else.

Seems like the label is pushing for a few extra sales, a piano version has been sent to US radio and has been released digitally today:

Still my favourite song of the year.

Is there a reason she doesn't like to face the crowd when she performs and doesn't star in her own videos (and also I noticed her YT profile pic is of her with a bag on her head)? Is she camera shy?

The piano version is beautiful btw.

She has a social phobia. I think a lot of what she goes through is due to the fact that she's an addict (hence the whole inspiration for "1000 Forms Of Fear").

And I agree, the piano version is goooorgeous! Her range is out of this world. She's definitely one of my favorite artists as of late. :inlove:

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE that video. All of the metaphors....its a gorgeous illustration of the feral nature of love and intimacy.

Best video I've seen from a Top40 artist in a long time.

This is a pretty solid album and the video for Elastic Heart is reviving the song since it has been out for a while.
